While I’ve worked with several designers over the years, Mark is truly the first that fits the true definition of a ‘design architect’. He has taken the time to understand who I am, and to then help me translate that into a living space that is exactly ‘me’. He uses design principles and a toolkit to map out spaces and show you what a room might look like in 2-3 different ways. This isn’t just about furnishings – he helped me design a new kitchen layout; he introduced me to fabulous ‘specialty’ showrooms that are far and away the most beautiful I’ve seen (think Armani leather-look porcelain tiles…). He helped me design carpeting that is one-of-a kind (made in Nepal) – around which everything else in my home revolves. He brought top-of-the line trade craftsmen to my projects to work with me on exactly the right item or specialty repair (for example, it takes a real craftsman to paint a harp table in tortoiseshell). And who do you know that would look at a ceiling light fixture and suggest specialty-painting the round light fixture covers to look like dripping wax? It is my belief that Mark brought a light into my life, a kind of spiritual presence that manifests through all of his work. If he ever retires, my days of design and renovations are over – I wouldn’t trust anyone else.
